Worldwide, floriculture is pondered as a huge industry, ranging from growing bulbs, farming to control pests which damage ornamental cropsand then comes the floral retail industry which caters to meet the requirement of the customers for their day to day floral requirements.. There is huge demand of Ornamental flowers and fresh flower, as people use such flowers for interior decoration of their homes, offices or any other work place. Beautiful flowers are also in huge demand for the wedding décor, for making jaimalas , car decors, room decors etc. Flowers are also considered to be the best gifting option among consumers. As flowers are appraised to have the positive vibes which can express emotions in the best way without articulating real words.
The floral industry today has grown in large proportions and offers a wide scope for growth and profits. Apart from the easily availability of flowers at the retail outlets, flowers are also bought online and can be delivered anywhere in the world. Today there is a dire need to maintain and grow the technology related to flowers as it is one of the most profitable business with low investment options, which is growing at a very fast pace.
In India, Floriculture industry is huge which creates employment opportunities for the Indian Citizens like export of flowers, production of nursery plants and potted plants, seed and bulb production, retail of flowers to meet the requirements, micro propagation and extraction of essential oils etc. India has a blooming future. As far as floriculture is concerned, the steady increase in flowers floriculture has become one of the important commercial trades in agriculture which is attracting profits and new ideas to breed new variety of flowers with the concept of cross hybridization.
Hence commercial floriculture industry is attracting hi-tech activity to have a better growth and quality of the flowers. Various steps are taken up to improve the quality of the flowers, also by keeping them under controlled climatic conditions inside greenhouse. Floriculture products mainly consist of cut flowers, potted plants, cut foliage, seeds bulbs, tubers, rooted cuttings and dried flowers or leaves. The important floricultural crops in the international cut flower trade are rose, carnation, Chrysanthemum, Gerbera, Gladiolus, gypsophila, orchids, anthurium, tulip, lilies etc. These flowers not only combine to make beautiful hand bunches or arrangements or centre table arrangements which can be gifted on various occasions like Birthday, anniversary, new born baby etc but are also the main source of decor in any weddings or events.
“India has a great prospect in floriculture; we also export flowers like Gerbera, Gladioluses, orchids, etc as they are the most common flowers which are used for the décor in Indian weddings. To increase more business opportunities in floriculture, NHM (National Horticulture Mission) is opening new centres at every district of India to provide more knowledge and new technologies to florist”, said Sanjay Vaishampayan, Sr. Scientist Agriculture University.
Horticulture department of India needs to do more in the field of flower to meet the growing demand of flowers. There is an increasing demand for modern & exotic flowers from individuals or households, institutions and hotels also continue to be the dominant buyers in the market. This is leading to more business opportunities in the floral retail industry. More and more youngsters are looking at an option of taking a franchisee from a renowned floral retail chain to earn their living. In Delhi, foreign nationals and the diplomatic community further increase the demand for flowers so florist are availing new technologies to meet the demand and to get benefited.
