Raksha Bandhan  is a festival of celebrating love and affection between brothers and sisters, it is a very traditional festival and the tradition is carried by tying a thread in their brother’s hand. All the brothers take a oath on this very day to protect their sister from all odds and difficulties till their last breath. They promise to their sister of their presence at the time of any problem of difficulty.

Every year Rakhi is celebrating in shravan purnima it is a full moon day on the hindu month of shravan. Mostly Rakhi comes in the august in this year it is in 24th august 2010.In our Indian history there are many stories that woman is  asking for protection through Rakhi, the story of Krishna and Droupadi, Yama and Yamuna are the most famous. Raksha Bandhan  is celebrated in different ways in south and north India  we call it  Raksha Bandhan  or Rakhi purnima .In maharastra, goa and gujrat it called NARIYAL PURNIMA on that day they offer a coconut to the sea for pleased the god of the sea varuna for beginning of the season  of fishing . In kumaon in the region of uttara khand it called JANYO PUNYO .The word janeu means the sacred thread and punyo means Purnima. On that day people change their jonyo or janeu. On central part of india like Madhya Pradesh, chattisgarh ,bihar  this festival  is celebrated as KAJARI PURNIMA. Kajari purnima is very famous between farmers and woman. In the day of Raksha Bandhan  sisters make themselves ready early in the morning and then they prepare puja thali with Rakhi which contains  kumkum , chawal, diya and ,mithai, Sweets, and flowers petals .The brothers  also get prepare themselves and come to their sisters for the occasion. On this day sisters are taking  aarti of their brother and wish good health and prosperity to the divine power then they take some kumkum and chawal and put it to their brothers forehead this episode is completed by tying  a Rakhi thread on the brother’s wrist . In Raksha Bandhan  gifts  take a very essential part because on that day sisters gift their brothers and the brothers also give a return gift to their sisters, those who have small brothers they gift them chocolates and sweets what they likes most .
